Child Benefit Protest in Inchicore

Damien Farrelléirígí in Dublin South Central has announced plans to hold a ‘Hands Off Our Child Benefit’ protest on Monday 3rd December in Inchicore Village. The protest will take place at 6.30pm outside the office local Fine Gael TD Catherine Byrne.

Speaking from Ballyfermot, éirígí Dublin City Councillor Louise Minihan said, “In the past month, éirígí in Dublin South Central has held four very successful ‘Hands Off Our Child Benefit’ protests outside Catherine Byrne’s office. The protests have been met with great support from passers by and motorists.

“We are now fast approaching Budget day and next Monday’s event will be a great opportunity for the people of Inchicore, Ballyfermot, Bluebell, Drimnagh and the South Inner City to send a clear message to the Fine Gael/ Labour coalition that our communities will not be taking unjust cutbacks or more austerity lying down.”

éirígí representative for the South Inner City, Damien Farrell, added, “As the 2013 budget approaches the anger across this area is palpable. Our communities have had enough of cutbacks and austerity imposed by Fine Gael and the Labour Party.

“For too long government politicians have become rich off the votes of the people of this area but have failed utterly to represent our communities. Our local TDs have a choice to make. They either represent themselves or they represent the people – they cannot do both.”

Councillor Louise Minihan concluded, “All those who are opposed to Child Benefit cuts and austerity, should come along to the protest and get involved in the fight back against the wider austerity programme. Communities in Dublin South Central and across this state need to get organised and take a meaningful stand against the government’s attacks – we owe that much to our children.”
