Inquiry Needed Into Brady Death

07/10/09

John Bradyéirígí general secretary Breandán Mac Cionnaith has called for a completely independent inquiry into the death in PSNI custody of John Brady.

Mr Brady, a republican ex-prisoner, died in Strand Road PSNI Barracks in Derry City on Saturday [October 3].

Mac Cionnaith said: “On behalf of éirígí, I would like to extend sympathy and solidarity to the Brady family at this very difficult time for them.

“Given the brutal history of RUC and PSNI interrogation centres, what is needed now is an inquiry, completely independent of both the PSNI and the British state, into the circumstances surrounding John Brady’s death.

“Mr Brady’s solicitor has reported that he was approached by PSNI Special Branch to become an informer in the hours leading up to his death. This is a worrying development that highlights the ongoing intelligence war being waged by the PSNI and other British state agencies against the nationalist community.”
